ARMA 3 - Animations Based Dismemberment Mod

When it comes to ARMA 3 and dismemberment the situation is pretty interesting. Head dismemberment is simple enough - you got the character heads feature, it usually is for choosing the face of any given character in the editor.
Some folks modded in head stumps\mangled heads (such as the mod by Sanchez I covered in the first video on the topic, or the newer "Bruh Moment" mod), and on headshots by calibers of your choice the head gets replaced with the head stump\one of the mangled heads.
The game just switches the character's head, and as those too are just considered to be "heads", you can use those models for living characters too. I've showcased that in the Bruh Moment video, it's pretty amazing.
When it comes to everything else though - there are issues. You can only replace the head, or the whole body. So the dismemberment mod that is currently out there basically replaced them with generic meaty\charred charred models that had body parts missing, and added a bunch more effects to spice things up. It can deliver fun results, but the generic model is a pretty massive limitation.
Well, apparently there's another method. WebKnight, the developer of Death and Hit Reactions just updated his mod with dismemberment, that is based on animations. So as the death animation is playing (you have specific animations based on what comes off) and as the character lies in the death pose, the limb you want severed gets hidden and a messed up model is attached to the character.
And so you can actually have dismemberment and keep the character model without needing a generic model.
What's there is head dismemberment (with the method I mentioned that can have ragdolls), one point of amputation per limb and a cut in half variation that does use a generic model.
In addition you will have some chunks spawn (that won't last for long), you will see severed limbs with a small puddle below them and activation is configurable. So you can have limbs come off from higher caliber weapons\explosions, or literally from anything. Cutting in half can be done by something like a GL, or you can configure it to only activate by something stronger.
But, this method does have a limitation - it is based on an animation. So the character has to remain in the death pose in order for the limb to appear missing, meaning you can't have the dismemberment with ragdolls.
There are a few minor things too - it didn't work consistently with OPFOR characters, that's the reason I was primarily filming and testing with Independents\BLUFOR.
As can be seen in the demonstration - the wrong arm\leg may come off.
And it doesn't seem to work with fall damage.
Either way, we have a really cool mod here, a bit of an old school response.
I don't know if Reforger\A4 will support something like this properly, but it's really cool seeing the workarounds people come up with and learning about how those work.
